Do not replace my Eton E5: (For jr_Tech I had high hopes for this radio, hoping that I could replace my hard and beat Eton E5 Unfortunately, this is not the case, while the G3 add some features, such as aircraft band .. is the LSB / USB, RDS and a sync detector (which sorta works), several important features / characteristics E5 is not transferred to the new model. 1st FM sensitivity is not so good. Many FM stations in Eugene, Oregon (about 110 miles away) that are easy to catch E5 can still be heard with the G3, but clearer and much more effort to get the antenna "fair". 2nd MW (AM) sensitivity is not that good ... compared side each other on several weak AM stations have decent performance with E5 hear more noise and static on the G3. 3. The same applies LW. .. more aircraft beacons are heard, but with more whistling in the G-3. 4th The "wide / narrow" switch does not work as "the voice / music" tone control on FM, as it does in E5 5. The buttons are not illuminated in G3. 6. Adjustment measures increased from 25 kHz to 50 kHz in FM ... not what is required to pull a weak DX station is the first by a great site! The positives: 1. RDS works well. 2. SSB stations are much easier to tune the E5 G3. 3. The band of aircraft that is functional, it will be great for air shows. 4. Under certain conditions (the seasons are not very weak) detector provides improved synchronization. I think that has to be set from 1 kHz to make it work, then there may be some alignment problems with my radio in particular. The feature does not work as well as it does on my Sony ICF-SW7600GR and is not even close to the performance of my Sony ICF 2010! 5. The G3 is less likely to "overload" in areas of strong signs that the E5 ... Perhaps the sensitivity was reduced in order to provide better shelter for the inhabitants of the cities at the expense of reduced DX So I'll keep my old beat Eton E5, and use both ... sad! Update: 19/05/10 I have read many comments / observations suggest that the problems of sensitivity and detection of the synchronization of early production units have been corrected. This model could be useful to get a second chance. 28 of 33 people found this review helpful. Radio very nice, better than the G6 NathanBrazil because I am a collector of radio, I have over 200 in my collection from 1920 to today. Allows you to handle a complaint, the weather is bad, bad would be a better description. This discription is also true for almost any radio less than $ 1000.00. The SYNC on this radio performs as well as the Sony 7600GR is not very good. Personally I found this to be of questionable value. Now for the good stuff: SSB function on this radio is the best I've seen on a small portable radio, you can choose either USB or LSB, and it also allows a fine adjustment via a rotary knob. A large inprovement on G6. The plane band works very well in my area (about 10 miles from DFW Airport). FM stations come in very well up and down to select. The local AM stations come in great, even in my office building. To fair I live and work in Dallas, Tx and there are många AM and FM stations nearby. The short wave performance is very good, in line with my favorite portable radios to the Sony 7600GR, ICF SW100E Grundig Yachtboy 400, Degen 1102, and 909th ATS The radio itself is quite small, less than 7600GR. It feels like it is done well, will say only this time safely. It also has RDS capability. I have not found any stations to test this feature is not on yet. The radio also has a line in / out port, which is a little unusual for a small radio. Business in the internal memory is easy to use as I really use this during the aircraft band. All my previous tests were only using the built-in whip antenna. 18 of 21 customers found this review helpful. poor, poor quality.
