Sangean DT-400W AM/FM Digital Weather Alert Pocket Radio

The Sangean Model DT-400W is the last pocket radio you will ever need to buy. It has about everything you could want, and then some, in a small, pocket sized portable radio. As an example the new NOAA Weather Alert Emergency Channel sounds a very loud audible tone when an extreme weather condition is imminent and/or a police emergency or a child abduction has occurred or any type of public awareness becomes critical. Even with your radio off or you are listening to another station the weather alert monitor continues to monitor the NOAA channels should an emergency arise. To conserve battery life the DT-400W provides an option to select the time you would like the NOAA alert to be active and a small LED alert flashes to remind you that the alert is on. In addition to emergencies the 7 NOAA channels provide up to date general weather information useful if you're planning a trip or just a picnic for the weekend. The large backlit LCD display clearly displays the time, station, battery life indication, alert indication and all other pertinent information. Advanced PLL Synthesized Digital Receiver provides drift free AM/FM reception. Deep Bass Boost adds to your stereo musical listening pleasure and 19 random preset selections lets you mix AM/FM stations with immediate access through the "My Favorites" button. Other features include Lock Switch to prevent accidental set-up changes, optional 90 minute auto shutoff, built-in speaker, auto station seek and a removable belt clip.

Customer reviews more useful for 152 147 people found the following review helpful. Or improved version of the Sangean DT-200VX by Ann E. Revelle is a good radio with very good improvements from its predecessor, the Sangean DT-200VX. Radio is a very light and small laptop with very good battery that can be taken almost anywhere the whole, but also easy listening skills. PROS: 1) It has very good reception on all bands (AM / FM and Weather Band). Now he has an excellent reception and static-free almost all the seven frequency channels of the American standard NOAA weather band. Furthermore, this radio also has the ability to NOAA official time signal detection to alert users of impending disaster weather, and other problematic situations such as kidnappings, floods, earthquakes, etc. However, this option is NOT the latest NOAA Alert SAME technology (specific area Message Encoding), which is available on some other set-top boxes that can give a county warning area of the county to individual users as its predecessor, this radio also has a switch for mono / stereo (control of bandwidth) for improvement of FM listening, but there is no RF (radio frequency) DX gain switch on the DT-400W, as there is the new Sony SRF-37W, for example, but see the below. 2) It has a very large and easy to read display with a battery level indicator, an indicator of the lock screen, the ability to shut down 90 minutes (can be disabled during each listening session, if necessary) with an indicator on the screen, etc. Also has a clock and a backlit display, but see below. 3) It is a very nice arrangement (called My Favorites) for as many as 19 presets for each band in random order with easy getting all of the presets, but only in the order of the first appointed to the 19th one in a logical progression (It will not go backwards to find the previously set for example) 4) Its deep bass boost is a very nice feature. 5) Automatic scan function and search capabilities, but see Con. 6) It also has a nice and easy removable belt clip the device to wear for jogging or walking. Disadvantages: 1) Backlight can not even turn off the day, even in bright sunlight. It is apparently an LED (Light Emitting Diode) with extremely low power drain, but it seems very illogical to me that it can not be overridden if there is no need. Apparently is really just a short while tuning the radio, and then turns off after a short time, but not be able to disable it completely if it is not necessary, it seems totally illogical to me 2) It is probably also built a full out connecting the battery compartment (requires two AA batteries), but it is not as robust as the Sony SRF-37W, for example (and the latter only requires one AAA battery). Of course, the reception and acoustics are generally better at DT-400W as a good cause (like Sakar International HS-10, a small hard case that fits like a glove). 3) A 90-day limited warranty from Sangean America is far too short considering that Sony SRF-M37W a 1-year warranty (see my review of SRF-M37W and also its product range for details). 4) During automatic scanning / out, the sound turned off, so you can not hear all the stations as they are discovered. Only the strongest stations are picked up during the scan / search, of course, during manual scanning the individual stations are easily heard that you can always select the station you want to hear. 5) control Sangean decided to put the speakers on the same switch with stereo / mono (bandwidth) changes in capacity. In my opinion the agreement was better in the DT-200V with a single keystroke and Direct Stereo / Mono switch on the front of the radio and not on the page with a feature of other general use. 6) As discussed also by others, you must connect the short cable to the end (by Roberts) or more.
